The Current year is 2379, and the United Federation of Planets has finally recovered from the war against the Dominion, an unrelenting foe with no regard for the losses they took to achieve their objective. The Federation prevailed in the end, and the Dominion abandoned their former allies, the Cardassians, but returned to the Gamma quadrant with the Breen ambassador in tow. The Dominion, content to leave its wounded where they fell, left political eddies all over the Alpha quadrant by leaving their former Cardassian allies dead and dying, both literally and politically. The Breen rapidly stepped up to fill in the shadowy places the Dominion had left behind.
The Federation, with traditional concern for the dedicated officers and crews fighting to keep the worlds of the Alpha Quadrant free, mobilized the largest attack fleet since the Romulan Wars over a century ago to stave off the Dominion attack. And it became apparent that in the wake of the battles there is only the silence of space, the skeletons of starships--and casualties.
But now the war is ended, and those wounds are healed as well. Or so the Federation thought.
The USS Caduceus, under command of Captain Mercedes Manion, was the first vessel in a fleet of specialized hospital ships launched during the war to support the front-line starships. She faced trials unlike any other starship before her. The Caduceus' primary mission is to provide medical support where needed throughout the Federation. Once the war ended, there was much healing to be done, for many worlds and many races.
The Dawnstar-class Starship carries the symbol of the caduceus, proudly displayed on her hull. The staff and snakes symbol easily identifies her as a medical ship. As such, she is allowed to have only limited weaponry, but is equipped with the most sophisticated shields of any ship in the Federation. The crew is diverse, but no militia personnel are allowed to be aboard the vessel for any purpose other than treatment.
Events in the Federation and in the new Romulan Republic have caused the governments along Alpha and Beta quadrants to form an alliance and create a Breen Neutral Zone. This area is being carefully watched, for several events have occurred which required direct intervention and any of which could have been the precursor to war, including the assassination of the Caduceus orignal commanding officer, Captain Mercedes Manion by the Breen in late 2379.
Now, the first Bajoran in Starfleet to reach the rank of Captain, Korani Korisse, has taken command of the USS Caduceus. A well-known doctor in the Federation, Captain Korani leads the crew of the Caduceus in the work Captain Manion started, bringing medicine to the people in the borders of the Federation.
Can you picture yourself serving aboard a ship that must avoid confrontations at all costs? Can you imagine a ship that won't phaser its way out of every situation? Are you steadfast enough to serve with these brave and caring men and women? Do you have what it takes to become part of the crew of this unique starship?
